and you have our new and improved "Double-Duty" Selectable 10/100 TX-100FX media converter. In fact, there is very little that this converter cannot do! The "Double-Duty" Selectable also supports desktop, wall and rackmount chassis installations in addition to a wide range of fiber options. These include ST, and SC connectors for use with multimode and singlemode fiber. Short haul, medium haul, and long haul distances can be accommodated. Chassis are available for standalone converters and for media converter modules. As always, a lifetime warranty is offered. |

More Deserts & Oceans & Ice Bergs, Oh My!
In last month's article we took you aboard naval submarines, sent you below the ocean's surface, took you to the arctic circle and tunnelled you through mountains to find VERSITRON products around the world. To continue in the spirit of that article, here are two more different and unusual applications where VERSITRON equipment is currently operating.
Awareness is the key to safe operations at airports. Numerous systems of lights, markings, and signs exist to provide the necessary awareness to pilots and air traffic controllers alike. VERSITRON equipment is currently in use to aid in the control and protection of these crucial signals that direct pilots both in the air and on the ground.
At many airports worldwide, lighting systems exist to assist on landings, takeoffs and taxiways. Airport lighting Systems include Approach Lighting Systems, Visual Approach Slope Indicators (VASIs), Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPIs) and Runway End Identifier Lights (REILS). Approach Lighting Systems assist in transitioning from instrument to visual flight for landing. VASIs and PAPIs provide runway approach descent guidance. REILs provide markings for the ends of the runway. Air traffic controllers can operate many of these lights through switching equipment located in the airport's lighting vaults. In addition, most of the switches have control features which can be accessed remotely from a distance.
VERISTRON's MicroModems Model M8000s are currently employed to transmit RS-232 switch control signals over fiber optic cable. Thus, allowing for greater communications distances as well as additional isolation from lightning as well as EMI or RFI.
The next time you access an ATM machine at a gas station or convenience store, don't be surprised if VERSITRON equipment plays a part in making that transaction possible. The F2702/F212 modems are currently employed to ensure safe transmission of data on phone lines over fiber optic cable. Therefore, making sure that equipment remains safe from lightning strike damage.
